What are we offering?

What are we Offering?

  • CERN Tour - We'll get a guided tour a variety of CERN's visit points, provided by our very own former SSAGO member, Conni! The exact visit points may change until quite close to the event due to availability, but we hope to visit areas representing a broad range of scientific disciplines, including, if all goes well, getting down to the LHC ring itself.
  • Accomodation - We have accommodation booked from Friday (13/11/26) evening until Monday (16/11/26) morning  at Séjours & Affaires Genève Saint Genis. We are unable to offer a reduced price for people needing to leave on the Sunday, but we appreciate that is an option you may want to consider. We will be split across 5, 5-bed appartments, each of which has 2 twin rooms and a sofa bed. (We will discuss room sharing allocations after bookings have closed.)
  • Breakfast - Breakfast for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday morning is available at the accommodation.
  • Insurance during the event - We will have a standard insurance policy provided by Unity which will cover the duration of the event in the case of any medical issues or other relevant incidents. (You should still have a valid UK GHIC that you keep on you at all times.)
  • 2 Event Badges - Everyone will get 2 event badges included in their initial booking price.

Cost: £145

What are we not Offering?

  • Travel to Geneva (inc travel insurance) - Due to the logistical challenges involved with a small contingent from likely geographically varied locations, we won't be providing centrally organised travel to Geneva/the accommodation. This also means your travel won't be covered by our Unity issued insurance policy, which will only cover you from when you join the event by checking into the accommodation on Friday, until you leave the event to start your journey home, so you should strongly consider arranging your own travel insurance to cover your journey. You may wish to  travel by plane (Geneva has a major international airport located quite conveniently to CERN/ our accommodation), by train (you can use the Eurostar and the interrail to Geneva and back), or by car, but whatever method you choose, you will need to self organise. There will be an opportunity to communicate with everyone else attending once you are booked, and we recommend people consider coordinating travel informally. Our suggestions for travel can be found here.
  • Travel around Geneva/CERN - We will likely be using public transport at various points to get around Geneva and our accommodation, and in particular to travel between the various different visit points at CERN. Unfortunately, for logisitcal reasons, we're not able to cover that cost centrally, and so you should be prepared to book and pay for your own travel. Switzerland has a fully integrated public transport system, and so we recommend installing the SBB app, which will allow you to book busses, trams, trains and more in a single place.
  • Any other meals - While we are providing breakfast as listed above, the accommodation does not provide any other meals, and so we have made the decision not to offer any other catering, which should allow everyone more flexibility. It is our understanding that the accommodation will have simple cooking facilities, and there are plenty of restaurants in and around Geneva. Once again, we will encourage everyone to discuss and cooperate to plan food. For Saturday lunch, we will be on site at CERN, and likely to be eating at their on-site canteen.
  • Sunday Programme - We have taken the decision not to offer a single, centrally organised programme for Sunday, instead allowing everyone to do what interests them most. You can find some ideas here and we will again be encouraging everyone to discuss their prefferred plan, but you will be responsible for arranging sinething for yourself and paying for any associated costs.

Cost: Likely to be significant - Due to the massive variety of possible options across this range of areas, it is impossible for us to give a likely cost range, but we felt the opportunity for flexibility and allowing everyone to do what suited themselves best was more important for an event of this nature. What we can say is that even being as cheap as possible, these factors will easily reach £100s, and you should be sure that you can afford this cost, as well as the base cost that we require, before you book.
